Oceans are crashing on a thousand shores<\/strong><\/p>\n

the sun is glaring down on deserts and glaciers<\/strong><\/p>\n

the moon is full, and new.<\/strong><\/p>\n

Animals are prowling for food,<\/strong><\/p>\n

\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 fires are raging<\/strong><\/p>\n

\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 it is raining.<\/strong><\/p>\n

At this very time,<\/strong><\/p>\n

\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 uncountable plants are growing, flowering, seeding, and dying.<\/strong><\/p>\n

Insects are buzzing, mating, feeding, flying and crawling.<\/strong><\/p>\n

Sands are shifting in the hot desert winds.<\/strong><\/p>\n

\u00a0<\/strong><\/p>\n

A trillion lives are being lived right now, each one unique, just like the others.<\/strong><\/p>\n

All beings are breathing, <\/strong><\/p>\n

in and out, simultaneously,<\/strong><\/p>\n

\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 out and in\u2026<\/strong><\/p>\n

\u00a0<\/strong><\/p>\n

Zen monks are sitting in the here and now,<\/strong><\/p>\n

Priests are praying for our salvation,<\/strong><\/p>\n

and mystics are holding the world together with their concentration.<\/strong><\/p>\n

\u00a0<\/strong><\/p>\n

Every human activity is happening now:<\/strong><\/p>\n

\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 healing the sick, teaching the young, gathering food, drinking water,<\/strong><\/p>\n

\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 creation and destruction <\/strong><\/p>\n

\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 cooking and eating<\/strong><\/p>\n

\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 crawling and running<\/strong><\/p>\n

\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 watching and waiting<\/strong><\/p>\n

\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 fighting and hoping.<\/strong><\/p>\n

\u00a0<\/strong><\/p>\n

Tools are made and used to carve raw matter into forms.<\/strong><\/p>\n

\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 Earth is moved.\u00a0 Calls are made.\u00a0 <\/strong><\/p>\n

\u00a0<\/strong><\/p>\n

Goods are made and packaged, sold and stored, shipped and stored, bought and used, tossed and buried once again within the earth.<\/strong><\/p>\n

\u00a0<\/strong><\/p>\n

Food is cooking over fires of wood, of dung, of coal, of gas,<\/strong><\/p>\n

\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 of electrical heat, of nuclear fuel rods generating steam.<\/strong><\/p>\n

\u00a0<\/strong><\/p>\n

Great tall trees are being felled right now,<\/strong><\/p>\n

Cattle are grazing<\/strong><\/p>\n

Sheep are giving birth to new lambs for the slaughter.<\/strong><\/p>\n

\u00a0<\/strong><\/p>\n

Billions of chickens are laying eggs<\/strong><\/p>\n

Birds of a feather are flocking together.<\/strong><\/p>\n

\u00a0<\/strong><\/p>\n

Blackberries are being picked right now,<\/strong><\/p>\n

\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 placed in bowls and baskets,<\/strong><\/p>\n

\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 staining fingers, mouths and aprons.<\/strong><\/p>\n

\u00a0<\/strong><\/p>\n

And thousands of couples are coupling right now<\/strong><\/p>\n

\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 as I write and as you read,<\/strong><\/p>\n

Rocking with the passion and the urgency of life upon life.<\/strong><\/p>\n

\u00a0<\/strong><\/p>\n

People are dying now,<\/strong><\/p>\n

\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 some in pain and some in peace.<\/strong><\/p>\n

\u00a0<\/strong><\/p>\n

In every moment there is suffering \u2013<\/strong><\/p>\n

\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 mountains of pain, the cries and whispered sobs,<\/strong><\/p>\n

\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 the lonely and alone.<\/strong><\/p>\n

Each of the trillion beings who are awake right now feels their own life as if it is the most important \u2013 and they are right.<\/strong><\/p>\n
